Hello, friends. I am pleased to have been invited by one of our leading art advocates, Lynn Carlson, to have an art exhibition of my bakery paintings. Lynn regularly curates art shows at the Caffé Luna and other venues.

Stop by for sumptuous treats both on your plate and on the walls! The Luna Caffé is located at 6230 Northwest Hwy., Crystal Lake, Il (in front of Hobby Lobby). Here is a preview of what you will see at the show.

Grand Bakery

This is the showstopper! It measures 30” x 24” plus the frame and commands your attention. The painting was designed to capture the essence of the entire bakery experience and contains elements of all the other paintings. The fruit, cookies and bread are actually sculpted from very thick paint. The strawberries are nearly an inch high. A brush is used sparingly--knives shape and move the media into its correct place. This is a wonderful painting.

Three Cakes

This painting is much larger than it looks here. It measures a sweeping 30 inches wide and is 15” tall. It has “presence” with this dramatic view of the cakes. Clearly, it would be the focal point of a gourmet kitchen. This painting was featured in the prestigious 2007 Woman’s Work Art show, juried by famed artist Judy Chicago.  ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Eat Cake II

Acquired by the McHenry County Government Center
Can you have too much cake? I didn’t think so. Building on the first Eat Cake painting, this one has not only more cakes but even more texture. The “nuts” on one cake are actually “paint chips” that I created and then adhered to the canvas. This painting was featured in the prestigious 2007 Woman’s Work Art show, juried by famed artist Judy Chicago. The size of this painting is 12”x9”. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Choose Your Treat!

Acquired by the McHenry County Government Center
With this painting, I explored different ways to lay down paint and create shapes. The paper cups ridges are expressed with a small painting knife. The chocolate cookies are swirls of paint. The berries were formed on the palette and then put in place. This painting was also in the 2007 Women’s Works show discussed earlier. It is 12”x9.”©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Doughnuts

I was drawn to the heaping mound of doughnuts on the shelf. I just wanted to grab one and dunk it my coffee. I love the softness of doughnuts but also how they hold together in your hand. This painting is 11”x14” and is offered at $400. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Eat Cake!

Acquired by the Epic Systems Corporation, Verona, WI
With this painting, I discovered the delight of using paint like it was icing. Mixing it thick and spreading it with knifes – well, I could hardly keep from licking my fingers! This painting is 12”x9”. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Sweet Buns

If you love bread or rolls, as I do, this painting will “talk” to you. The roundness of the bread and sweet rolls is what intrigues me about this painting. It measures 14” x 11” and will easily fit into the smaller walls of a kitchen or hall. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Strawberry Pastries

This is the painting that started it all – it is the first one I did in this series. I was so delighted with the result, that I haven’t stopped yet. This painting, by the way, won an award ribbon at a recent Northwest Area Arts Council art show. It is 16”x24”. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Lemon or Cherry?

Decisions, decisions--why not both? I did this painting because the stacks and stacks of cookies were so tempting. I didn’t know which to pick myself so I painted the lot of them. This painting is 14”x11.” ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Chocolate Chip Pan Cookies

When I was kid, I loved cookies like this at lunch time. They were warm from the oven and gooey in the center with melted chips. I can still taste 'em. This painting is 12”x9” and is offered at $300. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur

Fruit and Eggs

Okay, so this is not a bakery. But it is just as luscious. This artwork is really about roundish shapes – very large ones (watermelons) down to the very small ones (grapes). And there is a delicious variety in between. This is a bright, larger painting that would be fabulous is a spacious kitchen. It measures 48”x36”. Because the canvas wraps around the sides, a frame is not needed nor desired. It is offered at $500. ©2007 Barbara Sistak Baur
All of the paintings in this exhibition were inspired by a visit to a delightful bakery with a bountiful offering. I hope you enjoy them as much I did as I painted them.

Ready to hang -- All the paintings (unless noted) are framed with beautiful contemporary frames that showcase the artwork. Sleek and basic black, they are compatible with any décor.

All paintings are acrylic.
